Radical Candor Essentials

Run Radical Candor yourself.
No trainer required.

A licensed toolkit for 90 minute sessions that your own leaders can facilitate. Kim Scott teaches on video, your people practice together, and you keep the materials for the year.

What teams learn

What Radical Candor is, why it matters in their role, and how to practice it.

Teams build skill in soliciting feedback, giving it, and gauging how it lands. They rehearse a real feedback challenge from their own work, get practical tips from colleagues, and leave with a commitment: who will do what by when.

  • Radical CandorCare Personally and Challenge Directly at the same time.
  • Ruinous EmpathyYou care, but you stay quiet or sugar-coat it.
  • Obnoxious AggressionYou challenge, but you don't show you care.
  • Manipulative InsincerityNeither. Flattery up front, criticism behind their back.

These are behaviors everyone slips into sometimes, not personality types.

Where teams run it

One license, as many places to use it as you have teams.

The more cohorts you run, the lower your effective cost per person.

  • New-manager cohorts
  • Onboarding classes
  • Team offsites
  • Department all-hands
  • After a keynote
  • Quarterly team resets

Who runs it

Built for a leader, not a trainer.

Anyone who can run a meeting can host a session.

Anyone can host

A leader, manager, HR partner or up-and-coming team member who can run a meeting.

Simple facilitation

Keep time, follow the agenda and move the conversation along.

No training required

No certification and no course to complete before your first session.

Video-led learning

Kim Scott delivers the core teaching on video, so your hosts don't have to memorize a script.

One thing that helps it stick

Have a senior leader open the session.

Ask them to share a time they received feedback. When a leader goes first, the room sees that Radical Candor applies to everyone, and the conversations that follow tend to be more open.

Everything your hosts need, and support after the first session.

You license the materials and use them as often as you like during the year. All of it is editable, so you can add your own references.

Questions

Things people ask before they license it.

Is there a certification?

No. Essentials is a license to use our materials, not an accreditation. If you want certified facilitators, train-the-trainer is the right path.

Who should run the sessions?

Anyone comfortable running a meeting. Kim's videos carry the teaching. Your host keeps time and guides discussion, with a facilitator guide and a kickoff session from us.

How big can a session be?

Sessions are designed for teams of 6 to 30 and run virtually or in person. Larger groups can split into small breakout groups.

Can we edit the materials?

Yes. The decks and guides are editable, so you can adjust spelling and language and add references to your own organization.

Is there a deadline to finish?

No. It is a facilitated program, not self-paced e-learning, and there is no completion schedule. Run sessions when they suit your teams during the license year.

What if we want more depth later?

That is common. We can add a keynote or workshop for the moments that matter most, or talk about certifying internal facilitators.

Next step

Not sure it's the right fit? Tell us about your team.

We'll say so if a different format would serve you better. Candor works both ways.
